We’ve had a long few weeks of great weather here in London. When there’s sunshine, it just instantly makes you smile and be happy, and there’s nothing better than waking up and going to bed in a great mood. I always find that focusing on certain things that do make you happy can instantly lift your mood when you’re having a bad day.
For some of us, a sweet treat like chocolate can put that smile back on your face, or others it’s just simply spending time with the family. So I’ve decided to share with you, a short, but sweet list of 20 things that make me happy. This is in no particular order.
1. An obvious one, family. I love being around family and spending quality time with them. As I see my family about once a week, it’s nice to just catch up.
2. Spending time with my fiancé. Yes you could classify this as family, but spending time with your family and spending time with your other half is different. It’s nice to spend time with someone who you just connect with.
3. My two gorgeous cats. I treat them like my babies, Misty and Tigger are THE cutest cats I have ever met – of course I’m going to say that right? They’re so loving and just provide me with entertainment on a daily basis.
4. Summer months. I’m someone who absolutely loves the hot weather, and when it’s raining it just puts a whole downer on my day. There’s nothing worse, for me, than looking out of the window and seeing grey clouds and rain against the window. I thoroughly believe that the sun just instantly lifts our moods.
5. The colour pink. Ok this may sound totally girly of me, but that’s who I am, true to heart. I love anything and everything pink, whether it be Barbie pink or hot pink.
6. Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, a tub of this stuff can put a smile on anyone’s face. Cookie Dough please.
7. Movie nights. I’m someone who prefers cosy nights in, with a bowl of popcorn and a good film. I’m always going to see new films when they come out in the cinema, so nights in watching some favourite classics is something I thoroughly enjoy. It can be scary movies, rom-coms, comedy, thrillers…and admittedly even a bit of Marvel – though don’t tell my other half!
8. Working out. If you follow me on Twitter you’ll know that I’ve recently pushed myself out of my comfort zone and started going to gym classes. My usual gym routine consisted of me just going it alone. Gym classes have really pushed me just that little bit further, and I feel great after working out.
9. Fruit, especially summer fruits. Now that we are heading into Summer, I love heading to the supermarket and shopping around for all the Summer fruits which are in their peak season. I’d take a fruit bowl over porridge any day.
10. Baking, nowadays yes, it’s just the idea of baking. I used to bake quite often, but life has really caught up with me lately and I haven’t been able to bake as often as I’ve wanted to. Give it a few months and the mixing bowls and piping bags will be back out.
11. Makeup. Yes this may be every beauty blogger’s favourite thing in the world, but new launches and products are a wonder to read and learn about. There’s new techniques being discovered every day – who knew that we would all be strobing, baking, contouring and colour correcting away?
12. A good face mask. Sometimes we just need to take some time out for ourselves, and I really treasure my lazy Sunday’s where I spend a good few hours pampering. Nails, face and hair mask on and just some me time, we all need it.
13. Yoga, I’ve really started taking Yoga seriously lately since going to BodyBalance classes. I’ve noticed myself getting a lot less stressed about situations, and being mindful about how much I’m taking on.
14. There’s no doubt that we all have that one playlist on our iPod’s or phones that instantly lifts our moods, or has lyrics within it that we can really relate to. Music can be really theraputhic and can be enjoyed regardless of what mood we are in.
15. A good cup of tea, I’ve always needed a good cup of Yorkshire tea to start my day, and my habits just haven’t changed.
16. Sleeping, because who doesn’t?
17. Lillies and roses, I can never decide between the two when it comes to choosing my favourite flower. I have both of these tattooed in separate areas of my body. I love the smell of both.
18. A good TV show. Something that can keep me entertained for hours on end is a TV show that is worth watching. I love being gripped when watching TV shows.
19. Shopping – make-up or clothes shopping. I really don’t enjoy food shopping, it’s tedious and I’d rather just shop for food online. Makeup and clothes on the other hand, irrespective of whether I’m just window shopping is just pure happiness.
20. Food. Even though I hate shopping for food, I am a foodie at heart. I love try new dishes, or cooking new dishes. You can never go wrong with a good Pad Thai.

Yeah I think sometimes it’s good to diverge away from the beauty posts and just post something uplifting and personal

Just reading this post made me really happy and most of the things you mentioned really lift my mood too. I love a good cup of tea, baking, working out and cosy nights in. Other things that make me happy are walks at the seaside or at a river, discovering new songs on Spotify and reading a good book. xx
